This post is all about the best hotels to stay in Sri Lanka, with both luxury and boutique alternatives for an unforgettable trip.
Sri Lanka is a small island in the Indian Ocean slightly the size of West Virginia and is home to different cultures, languages, and ethnicities. There is much to be seen in the country, which has attracted more and more visitors interested in the diversity of its wildlife, its tea plantations, and its extensive coastline, which remains relatively untouched by man.
If you have read the post with tips on what you will find in Sri Lanka, keep reading to discover a selection of hotels to stay in different cities across the country.

The Best Hotels in Sri Lanka
Top Hotels in Galle
Galle is a historic city that is located in the southern part of Sri Lanka. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts a strong colonial heritage, being one of the destinations that must be part of your Sri Lanka itinerary. In terms of accommodation, Galle has many options, but I recommend The Galle Fort Hotel; The Bartizan Galle Fort; Le Grand Galle By Asia Leisure; and – if you are looking for an exceptional hotel – Amangalla is the best choice.

Best Hotels in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital
Colombo is the capital of the country and the place where you will probably first arrive in Sri Lanka. Despite not being the star of any itinerary through the country, spending a night in Colombo can be a great choice to start the immersion in Sri Lanka’s culture I stayed at Shangri-la, a brand new hotel that I highly recommend. The rooms offer a view of the city or the Indian Ocean and the hotel offers the standard service that Shangri-la offers around the world. Other options include Taj Samudra, with rooms overlooking the capital’s waterfront; Jetwing Colombo Seven, which has an infinity pool; and the Galle Face Hotel, with slightly older rooms, but with an incredible view, since it is also by the sea.

Kandy Top Hotels
Part of the Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka, Kandy is the cultural capital of the country. The city is the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings and today has World Heritage status. If you want to visit the temple where the Buddha’s tooth is located (the Tooth Relic Temple), it is worth staying at Theva Residence; Sky Pavillion; The Albatross Boutique Villa; and Cinnamon Citadel Kandy.

Nuwara Eliya Best Hotels
When the time comes for you to explore the mountains of Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya offers hotels with views of the tea plantations, combining design and architecture with the colonial style that creates the perfect environment to relax and enjoy the milder temperatures. Include in your itinerary the Heritance Tea Factory, a colonial-style hotel with the Nuwara Eliya mountains in the background; Amaya Langdale; or Jetwing Warwick Gardens.

Best Hotels in Unawatuna and Surroundings
Unawatuna and the surrounding beaches are home to Sri Lanka’s most pristine beaches. Spending a few days relaxing by the pool, enjoying the beach, and admiring the coconut trees must be part of everyone’s itinerary around Sri Lanka. In Unawatuna, stay at KK Beach, which is right on the beach and offers very spacious and comfortable rooms; or Thaproban Pavilion Resort and Spa, which is also very close to the beach and has a spectacular pool.
Other hotels that are not really in Unawatuna, but are close to the beach and are excellent alternatives are: Owl and the Pussycat Hotel and Tabula Rasa Resort.

Koggala Lake Best Hotels
Koggala Lake is a haven in the middle of nature in Sri Lanka and offers perfect hotels for those seeking silence and peace. Here, you can choose to stay at the Tri Lanka or The Fortress Resort & Spa.
