Hotel Review: Domes Zeen Chania, a Seaside Luxury Hotel on Crete Island

If you are heading to Crete to enjoy the European summer, then you should stay at Domes Zeen Chania, one of the best luxury hotels on the island. Here you’ll find a complete and honest review of the hotel and its fabulous amenities.

Domes Zeen Chania is a beachfront luxury hotel on the Greek island of Crete. The comfortable setting, its lush greenery surroundings, and strategic location make it one of the best options to explore Chania and the best beaches on Crete.

The hotel is part of the Marriot Luxury Collection, and its hype can be perceived in its award-winning aesthetic – a combo of concrete, stone, wood, and rattan.

After spending one week calling this place my home-away-from-home, I can say that Domes Zeen’s rooms are warm and rustic, and its elegant simplicity reminded me of the many hotels I’ve stayed at in Bali.

Domes Zeen Chania is located in Chania, Crete, 3 miles (or 5 kilometers) away from Old Town and the Venetian Harbor. The hotel is set oceanfront, away from the bustle of the touristic area, yet close enough for you to pop by Old Town to wander its streets, grab a bite to eat, or sip a coffee.

Chania Old Town

Being a luxury hotel, the amenities at Domes Zeen Chania are on point. The hotel has two on-site restaurants – the Beach House for all-day dining with Greek, Cretan, and international cuisine, and Enino Gastronomy restaurant for a fine-dining degustation menu. There’s also a pool bar where you can get your espresso cappuccino or cocktails to cool down.

Parking is free nearby the hotel’s entrance, which is great because you’ll definitely need a rental car to explore the nearby beaches.

And in this seaside hotel, you’ll also have complimentary beach loungers and umbrellas for some time spent gazing at Aegean. Not really into the ocean? Then, spend some time soaking in the sun at Domes Zeen’s gorgeous pool surrounded by palm trees.

The staff can pamper you with massages, hot-stone therapies, and beauty treatments in the hotel’s open-air Jungle Spa. Brands include the renowned Elemis and Codage Paris.

Lastly, at this luxury hotel, you’ll also have access to an outdoor gym with daily fitness classes, including yoga, cardio, and strength training (the schedule varies weekly).

What to know for visiting Crete

The currency used in Greece is the Euro (EUR). The current exchange rate is approximately 1 EUR to 1.10 USD. You can check the current euro exchange rate on Google.

While traveling, I personally use a free Charles Schwab Debit Card which provides unlimited worldwide ATM Fee Refunds, no foreign transaction fee, and the true exchange rate.

Best time to visit Greece

The best time to visit Greece is between April and October. July and August can be very crowded, so I recommend the shoulder months of April, May, September, and October. I visited Crete in the middle of September and had perfect sunny days and warm temperatures.

Transportation on Crete Island

Public Transportation: You can find a bus system on Crete to get to a few places on the island. Check out their routes and timetable on their website.

Rental Cars: The best way to get around Crete is by car. Plan on renting a car as soon as you get on the island, so you can explore the beaches above at your convenience.

Travel Insurance

Ever since the pandemic, travel insurance has become almost essential for every type of travel. My recommended and used travel insurance resource is SquareMouth – a platform for searching for the best option amongst travel insurance companies. It allows travelers to instantly purchase a travel insurance policy from every major provider in the US. The platform also makes clear each policy’s COVID-related coverage.
