Getting to Enchanted Rock is an easy task, and the best way to get here is by car from major cities in Texas. So, you can either visit it on a day trip or choose to spend the night nearby to explore more of the nearby attractions.

- Dallas: 250 miles
- San Antonio: 90 miles

Entrance Fee and Operating Hours
The entrance fee to Enchanted Rock is US$ 8 per person for a daily pass. Children 12 and below are free. If you want to visit other parks in Texas, you should consider purchasing the Texas State Parks Pass. This pass costs US$ 70 and allows you to visit (with guests) all 80+ State Parks in Texas for 12 months (starting from the date of purchase).
In terms of operating hours, Enchanted Rock is open from 6.30 am to 10 pm, and the gate closes at 8 pm.

Hiking at Enchanted Rock
There are 11 miles of hiking trails to explore when visiting Enchanted Rock.
Of the many hikes in the park, the most renowned is the Enchanted Rock Summit, a 0.8 mile that takes you to the top of the park’s namesake. The hike is short but may be considered challenging for some people due to the steep path and lack of shade along the entire way. At the top, you’ll have epic 3600 views of the Hill Country.
For a moderate hike, you should try Turkey Pass (0.7 miles), a trail that gives you excellent views of Enchanted Rock on one side and Turkey Peak and Freshman Mountain on the other.
The Interpretive Loop (0.5 miles) is a good choice for an easy, family-friendly trail. This short stroll is suitable for all ages and offers a glance at the many plants and animals in the park.
If you have time, head over to the Loop Trail (4.6 miles). This trail goes around the park’s limit and allows you to explore the entire area.

Things to see near Enchanted Rock
From Enchanted Rock, you can visit Fredericksburg to explore downtown, grab a bite to eat at its many restaurants, join a wine tasting, or sip a coffee.
From here, you can also pay a visit to Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, a place that tells the story of the 36th president of the United States. By visiting this historical place, you can an overview of the president’s story – from birth until his final resting place on LBJ Ranch (admission is free).
And if you want to visit another Hill Country attraction, plan on visiting the Pedernales Falls State Park, another natural area in Texas. Because of its proximity (60 miles), you can visit Enchanted Rock in the morning and Pedernales in the afternoon (or the other way around).

Do I need hiking boots for the Enchanted Rock hike?
You don’t need hiking boots, but hiking shoes with a good grip are recommended. I personally use the brand Columbia either for hiking boots or trail shoes.
Is Enchanted Rock a hard hike?
No, it’s not a strenuous hike. However, it’s a short yet challenging hike due to the steep elevation of the rock, but take your time and go either straight up, if you can, or try zigzagging if you need help.
Are dogs allowed in Enchanted Rock?
Pets are only allowed in the selected day-use picnic areas and campgrounds. Also, the only trail pets are allowed in is the Loop Trail.
